Decluttering Your Home When You’re Expecting a New Baby

You may not have to ditch everything in your home before the new baby arrives, but perhaps it’s time to declutter some items in that guest bedroom that you are planning on preparing as a nursery. Besides, before that baby arrives, you probably have some things you want to get done around the house, and decluttering is a great place to begin. Today, we are going to give you some advice on decluttering your home when you’re expecting a new baby, so pay close attention.

Start Out with the Sentimental Items

The sentimental items are going to be the hardest items for you to get rid of, so you don’t have to. You’re about to be making some new memories, but this doesn’t mean you have to forget your life before the baby. Go ahead and sort out the meaningful items that you would like to keep.  In other words, it’s okay to keep the menu from your wedding, but you should toss out some random piece of paper that you don’t even remember.

Rent a Dumpster

Some of you may have so many items that you don’t want to keep, and that is okay. If you don’t want to hold a garage sale, then go ahead and rent a dumpster. In this day and age, residential dumpster rentals are pretty cheap, and you can rent them for a couple of days. Just know that you’re not allowed to dump hazardous material in the dumpster, but you can dump furniture, paper, and that sort of stuff.

Rent a Storage Unit

Just as there are dumpster rentals for decluttering, there are also storage units that you can rent for items that you just can’t get rid of. This includes items, like skis that you may not have a use for right now and that extra bookcase you can’t seem to find a spot for. Instead of tossing them in the dumpster rental, you can save them all in a storage unit. Basically, we’re going with the “out of sight, out of mind” saying with this one.

Don’t be Afraid to Ask for Help

Don’t be afraid to ask a friend or family member to help you declutter your home before the baby arrives. If you have scheduled a dumpster rental for decluttering your home, you’re only going to be keeping that dumpster for a short amount of time, and you’ll need to use it while it’s in your yard. If you don’t have anyone to help you, then you could always turn to a professional organizer, but that’s a whole different ballgame.

Final Words

Normally we would tell you to take your time, but you will want to have your home decluttered before the baby is born, and you know how that goes. Whatever you do, don’t stress over decluttering your home, and realize that you’re doing this for a good purpose – for the baby.
