How to Avoid Damage to Your Driveway When Renting a Dumpster

CALL NOW 844-762-8449
When you rent a roll-off dumpster, if you’re not careful, you could end up damaging your driveway. Renting a dumpster to throw away junk from your home is a great idea, but you will want to properly protect your driveway so that it doesn’t get damaged. Here is how you can prevent your driveway from being damaged by a rental dumpster.

Have Boards Placed Under the Dumpster

There are some dumpster rental companies who will offer to place a board under the dumpster for you. When you go to rent the dumpster, go ahead and ask them if they provide boards for the dumpster to sit on. If they don’t, then you should get some boards to put in your driveway before the dumpster is delivered. We recommend wood because it will act as a cushion between the dumpster and your driveway. This technique will also help spread the weight out similar to if the dumpster were to be placed on the grass. Level Concrete – It’s not likely for a dumpster to cause damage to a concrete driveway. This is why the best place for dumpster rental placement is either on the street or on your concrete driveway. The concrete is dense enough to be able to hold a dumpster and isn’t going to break with additional weight placed on it. If possible, avoid placing the dumpster on grass because it can tear the grass up and sink into the ground.

Avoid Overfilling the Dumpster

The company you rent the dumpster from will tell you how high you can fill the dumpster based on what you will be throwing into it. Make sure you follow those recommendations in order to avoid putting excessive strain on your driveway. If your junk removal involves you tossing heavy materials into the dumpster, you should be extra cautious. Examples of heavy materials you shouldn’t overload the dumpster with roofing shingles, concrete, bricks, and dirt. Asphalt driveways are the ones that are most at risk of strain.

Have the Dumpster Placed on the Street

If the town or city you live in allows dumpsters to be placed on the street, then that’s where you should place them. Some cities will need you to obtain a dumpster permit in order to do this, but it’s worth it. If you plan on putting the dumpster rental on your driveway, then you’re not going to need a permit. If you’re able to obtain a permit to place the dumpster on your street, this is the best way to prevent your driveway from being damaged.

Go for a Rubber-Wheeled Trailer Dumpster

Speak with the dumpster rental company and see if they have any trailer dumpsters available with rubber wheels. Oftentimes, roll-off dumpsters will have steel feet and wheels, which are known for putting stress on concrete driveways. Rubber wheels, on the other hand, will lessen the chances of causing damage to your driveway. If you use one with rubber wheels, you will still want to place wood under the trailer tongue.

Work with a Responsible Dumpster Rental Company

The right dumpster rental company will make a big difference when you want to avoid damage to your driveway when renting a dumpster. Some companies are careless, while others will make sure they do everything they can to protect your property. Read the online reviews to find out which companies offer the best service before you choose.

Consider a Shady Area

If you have asphalt for your driveway or your driveway gets really hot in the summer, you might want to see if you can put your dumpster rental in a shady spot. Asphalt, specifically, will get soft in the head, which can make it easier to damage with a dumpster rental.

Final Words

When you rent a dumpster and have it placed on your driveway, follow the tips above to lessen the chances of the dumpster causing damage to your driveway.
